In 2024, the Wedding Office has selected 30 dates and 25 exciting locations where you can have a special wedding experience.

You can see the upcoming locations and dates in the calendar below.

An ’open-air’ ceremony is carried out just like at City Hall – simply in new and different surroundings.

At the bottom of the page, we have gathered the questions to some of your frequently asked questions.

The ceremony

At an open-air wedding, the ceremony is the same as at City Hall - just under the open skies or in new, different surroundings.

The ceremony will start by the registrar making a short speech for you. Then you will be asked if you accept one another as spouses. After you have confirmed this, you may exchange rings if you wish. When you have signed the marriage documents, you will be handed your marriage certificates and the ceremony is over.

Your guests are welcome to take photos and record videos during the ceremony. You can also choose to invite guest to join on your phones on Facetime, Skype etc.

Practical information

When should we arrive at the location?

Please be present 10 to 15 minutes before your booked wedding appointment.

In which languages can the ceremony be held?

The ceremony can be held in Danish, English or German. You can pick a language when you book your wedding appointment.

It is mandatory that you both understand what is being said during the ceremony. If one of you do not understand either Danish, English or German, you must bring an interpreter.

Do we need to bring our ID?

If you have a cpr-number/personal identity number in Denmark or any of the Nordic countries, you do not need to bring any ID to your ceremony.

If one or both of you do not have a cpr-number/personal identity number in Denmark or any of the Nordic countries, please follow the instructions in your receipt for booking of the marriage appointment.

Do we need to bring our own witnesses?

You are welcome to bring your own witnesses, but it is not mandatory. The City of Copenhagen will always provide two official witnesses.

If you wish for two of your guests to be the witnesses who sign your marriage documents, simply let the registrar know when it's time to sign the documents. Your witnesses do not need to bring any ID.

The marriage certificate

Immediately after the ceremony, you will be handed two multi-lingual marriage certificates in Danish, English, French, German and Spanish. If you need more copies, you are welcome to contact the Wedding Office.
